Conventions of a horror film used in my still:
- Ideological discourse of female vulnerability
- Protagonist and antagonist is common to the horror genre
- Male antagonist - reinforce the idea that women are incapable of such inhumane acts
- Basement location - traditional location for planned murder due to little to no lighting
- Concealed identity of killer
Unlike horror films my still contains:
- A large amount of light
- Props to suggest a stock room as setting
The criteria fulfilling the mise-en-scene technical code is:
- Leading lines running along the ceiling - draws attention to centre
- Character blocking - breaking of rule of thirds, centralised characters demand immediate attention.
- Lighting - darkness to hide the identity of antagonist
- Props - the saw suggests spontaneous murder as opposed to a planned attempt on life
- Costume - makes victim look as though she is lost, she doesn't look like she is meant to be there.
- Non-verbal language - the sinister expression on the killer’s face suggests intention
great work Dylan
